No Frost in Sight

No Frost in Sight

Our fall season is still going despite it officially being past zone 8b’s last frost date. Planting before and throughout August has allowed our crops to get settled before the cold weather came. Our cold hardy crops are loving this weather, enough sunshine to promote more growth but cooler evenings to keep them cozy.

WHAT’S NEW

Our wonderful winter squash are continuing to ripen! We had a second round of harvest this week with more to come. Even fall can bring bountiful harvests! We have been collecting our favorite edible flowers to dehydrate for a seasoning salt recipe. With the sunny weather still shining, we continue to weed and stay on top of our garden beds. It’s not too late to add compost if you haven’t yet!

VARIETY HIGHLIGHT

Acorn Table Squash
A fun ribbed squash with a sweet and nutty flavor and a tender, smooth texture. Great to dice up and roast with the skin on, or halve and stuff the squash for a boat style dish. You’ll know it is ready to harvest when the stem is the same dark green color as the skin and the field spot is orange.
