CJ & Elise McCollum

CJ & Elise McCollum

Founders & Owners

After his introduction to wine in his early 20’s by his wife Elise, CJ moved to Oregon and joined the Portland Trail Blazers, finding themselves just a short drive away from one of the top wine regions in the country. There, they were able to pursue their newfound passion even further.

McCollum Heritage 91 is a culmination of CJ and Elise’s passion and dedication to create exceptional wine. At the heart of this, is the desire to create an inclusive space where all are welcome. The family acquired a 318-acre property in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA in 2021 and planted 56 acres under vine, solidifying their long-term vision and amplifying the overarching goal of creating a lasting family legacy.

The five wines in the brand’s portfolio are made in partnership with Gina Hennen and the Adelsheim Vineyard team. As the Chehalem Mountains’ first winery, Adelsheim’s roots run deep in the wine community. Combine their vast knowledge and expertise with CJ’s endless curiosity and love of learning, and it’s clear to see why this is the perfect pairing. Connected through their passion for wine, they formed a true partnership to bring the lineup of wines to life.

The McCollum family is entering an exciting new chapter as their estate vineyard starts to produce fruit. Their estate vineyard is LIVE (Low Input viticulture & Enology) & Salmon safe certified – with the belief that a sustainably managed and farmed vineyard is a cornerstone of creating a legacy that will last for generations.

More About McCollum Heritage 91

THE NAME
McCollum Heritage 91 is all about legacy—bringing CJ’s passions to life while honoring his roots in the process. It just so happened that the perfect word to describe that—heritage—is also the name of the street he grew up on in Canton, Ohio. Combined with his birth year and family name, McCollum Heritage 91 truly embodies CJ and all that he stands for.

THE LABEL
McCollum Heritage 91 is, in part, a tribute to CJ’s wife, who first introduced him to wine. Her favorite flower, the anthurium, is a symbol for happiness, abundance and hospitality, so it’s only fitting that it finds its home on the label—a representation of their relationship and their passion for wine and sharing it with those they love.

THE PARTNERSHIP
When it came to McCollum Heritage 91’s inaugural wine, CJ wanted to choose vineyards that highlight the uniqueness that Oregon terrain has to offer.

For the 2018 Pinot noir, they pulled from three of Adelsheim’s most prized estate vineyards, all planted on deep volcanic soil. Each vineyard imparts distinctive notes—spice and loam, fresh cherry, and violet and lavender—a true celebration of Oregon’s rich, diverse terrain.

As the Chehalem Mountains’ first winery, Adelsheim’s roots run deep in the wine community. Combine their vast knowledge and expertise with CJ’s endless curiosity and love of learning, and it’s clear to see why this is the perfect pairing. Connected through their passion for wine, they formed a true partnership to bring his first wine to life—McCollum Heritage 91: 2018 Pinot noir.
