Craig Williams & Jamie Lewis
Proprietor & Winemaker
ABOUT CRAIG
Craig Williams is a winegrower and the founder of X Novo, where he focuses solely on estate vineyards and winegrowing in the Eola-Amity Hills. Prior to Oregon, he spent over thirty years at Joseph Phelps Vineyards, which included developing Freestone Vineyards on the Sonoma Coast, building a winemaking reputation for thoughtful, quality-driven wines through the exclusive use of distinctive estate owned vineyards.
Years of visiting the various Willamette Ava’s, consultations with Oregon winegrowing associates and trips to Burgundy pointed to the Eola-Amity Hills as having the soils, climate and elevation fundamental to their values. In 2010, Craig and his wife, Robin, purchased a 5-acre parcel that would become the foundational vineyard, called X Novo, meaning “from new” or “new beginning”. Another parcel was purchased in 2012 also in the Eola-Amity Hills south of the initial purchase, which is called X Omni.
ABOUT JAMIE
Jamie Lewis is a native Oregonian winemaker crafting small‑production Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with intention and focus for the X Novo estate in Eola‑Amity owned by the Williams Family. She holds a degree in Enology and Viticulture and, early in her career, developed a passion for travel that led her to work in both large‑ and small‑scale wineries across Oregon, Germany, and Argentina.
Jamie was introduced to Craig prior to the 2022 harvest while working at Antica Terra. From that moment on, the property, people and project captivated her—continuing to challenge, inspire, and shape her work as a winemaker.
More About XNOVO
X NOVO is a new estate built on a half-century of experience. With two estate vineyards and a modest workshop winery in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills, X NOVO represents a revitalized approach to winegrowing.
Across X Omni and X Novo are a community of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines representing more than a dozen selections or clones for each variety. This approach lends to greater transparency of place with layered, complex and distinctive qualities. In total, they tend to 20 acres of Chardonnay vines and 7 acres of Pinot Noir vines.
